← Upswing Projects Firefly

We collect almost nothing.

Firefly has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no servers watching your child play. The one exception is your subscription — Apple, not us, handles that payment, and we only know whether it's active. Everything else your little one does in the app stays on your device. This page explains all of it plainly.

01 About Firefly

Firefly is vision play for little ones, made by Upswing Projects LLC. It turns early visual practice — following a moving light, noticing more out to the sides, strengthening eye movements — into play, tunes each activity to what you'd like to work on, and gently shows you where your child is getting stronger. It works just as well for children rebuilding vision after an illness or injury.

This policy covers the Firefly iOS app and this website.

02 Firefly is not a medical device

Firefly is not a medical device. It doesn't diagnose anything and it isn't a substitute for your paediatrician or an eye specialist. Play together, follow your little one's lead, and stop the moment they're tired or fussy. If your child has ever had a seizure, check with their doctor first — Firefly avoids flashing and strobing on purpose, but you know your child best.

The scores and reaction times Firefly shows you are a record of play — how your child engaged with an activity on a given day. They are not a clinical assessment, a screening result, or a measurement of vision, and they should never be used in place of one. Any concern about your child's sight or development belongs with a qualified professional.

03 What we collect

Almost nothing. Firefly does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information about your child — not to us, and not to anyone else. The only thing we know anything about is your subscription, covered in the next section.

Concretely, Firefly contains no:

  • Accounts, sign-ins, or user profiles
  • Analytics or usage reporting of any kind
  • Advertising, ad networks, or tracking pixels
  • Location access
  • Device identifiers sent off the device
  • Camera, microphone, photo, or contacts access
  • Crash or error reporting that transmits data externally

Apple's App Store privacy label for Firefly lists one data type — purchase history — used only to unlock the app you've paid for. Nothing about your child's play is in that label, because nothing about your child's play is collected.

04 Subscriptions & payment

Firefly is available with a free trial, then continues as a paid membership — monthly or yearly. All payment is handled entirely by Apple through your Apple ID. We never see, receive, or store your card number, billing address, or any other payment detail.

  • Your device tells Apple's App Store to verify whether your subscription is active — this is standard for any subscription app on iOS
  • We do not know your name, email, or identity through this process unless you separately email us
  • We cannot see your payment method, card details, or billing history — that stays with Apple
  • Managing, changing, or canceling your subscription happens in your device's Settings, not in anything we control

Full billing terms — pricing, trial length, and how auto-renewal works — are in the app description on the App Store and in our support page.

05 Your device, your data

Firefly does save your child's play history — activity progress, left and right engagement scores, and reaction times — so you can follow how things are going over time. All of it is written to your device's own storage and stays there.

  • It never leaves your device and is never sent to us or to any third party
  • You can view it any time inside the app
  • It is removed completely when you delete the app
  • It is included in your device backups only if you have Apple's backups switched on — that copy is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not ours

What this means in practice: your child's play history belongs to you. We have never seen it and we have no way to.

06 No third parties

Firefly integrates no third-party analytics, attribution, advertising, or crash-reporting services. There is no Firebase, no Mixpanel, no ad SDK, no social login, no measurement partner. Everything the app does — every game, every score — happens on your device.

The one network connection Firefly makes is to Apple's own systems, to verify your subscription. That's it — no other outside connection exists in the app.

07 Children's privacy

Firefly is made for babies and young children, and it's designed so that no personal information about your child is ever collected — regardless of your subscription.

COPPA and equivalent laws

Because Firefly collects no personal information about the child using the app, it complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the UK Age Appropriate Design Code, the GDPR's provisions for children, and equivalent protections elsewhere. Subscription and payment are handled with the parent's Apple ID, entirely separate from any information about the child.

No commercial pressure aimed at your child

Firefly has no ads, no external links for a child to tap, and no prompts to rate, share, or invite. The subscription is presented once, to the adult setting up the app, not repeated at your child mid-play. There is nothing in the app designed to extract anything from your family beyond the membership you knowingly chose.

08 Why it's built this way

Privacy by default is one of the convictions this studio is built on. Our apps collect nothing they don't need — and for Firefly, that turns out to be almost nothing at all: just enough to keep your membership working. What your child does inside the app stays on your device. That isn't a setting you have to find; it's the design.

It also means that if Firefly were ever discontinued, nothing about your child's play would be sitting on a server somewhere waiting to be deleted, sold in an acquisition, or exposed in a breach. There is nothing to lose track of, beyond ordinary Apple subscription records that Apple itself already retains.

09 Changes to this policy

If Firefly ever changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and change the date at the top before that version ships. We would not begin collecting more data without saying so here first, clearly and in plain language.

Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
